Vince Voron

Today, Vince Voron is an AVP leading Coca-Cola’s strategic design team. Responsible for the graphics, retail and industrial design vision for North America, his work spans design from conception through commercialization. His responsibilities include creating innovative and alluring touchpoints with the greatest number of consumer interactions per day: Millions and millions —including packaging, coolers and vending machines (many of them interactive and complete with innovative media). While head of Industrial Design for Coca-Cola's corporate division he led the form and user interface design for the Coca-Cola Freestyle platform. He also developed the first 3D visual identity system for proprietary Coca-Cola equipment. Before joining Coca-Cola in 2006, Voron was senior industrial design manager at Apple. During his 16 years there, he developed and led the human factors and color teams responsible for iMacs, PowerBooks, iPods and the iPhone. In addition, he held various leadership roles at Apple offices in Singapore, Ireland and Paris. His background includes a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State, an MBA from the University of California and a Masters in Human Ecology Design from the Universite René Descartes in Paris.

Michael Murphy

|
Michael Murphy is Senior Director of Worldwide Environmental Affairs for Dell. In this role, he is responsible for leading Dell’s Design for Environment Program, Product LCA programs, maintaining standardization and governance for environmental and regulatory compliance, and increasing Dell’s product and packaging environmental leadership across its entire portfolio. Michael is also one of the primary authors of Dell’s annual sustainability report, regularly assists customers with their questions about the company’s environmental programs and is playing a key role in Dell becoming the ‘greenest’ technology company on the planet.
He has been with the company for ten years and has held positions in program management, engineering, global operations, regulatory compliance, and environmental affairs.
Prior to joining Dell, Michael served in the United States Army as an officer in the Corps of Engineers and Army Acquisition Corps, where he led a variety of combat engineering and contracting organizations, as well as, serving as the director of contracting for the Texas Army National Guard. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, is a certified Contracting Officer, and holds a Graduate Certification in Sustainable Business from Bainbridge Graduate Institute.

Doug Palmer is a Senior Director of Quality and Environmental Strategy for the Motorola Mobility business.
In his Environmental Strategy role, Palmer is responsible for developing and executing environmental sustainability plans that enable customers, consumers, and business units to become greener by decreasing the environmental footprint of products, services, and operations. Current focus areas include energy, carbon footprint, substances of concern, packaging, and recycling. Previously, Palmer led a global effort to convert product portfolios to become EU RoHS compliant.
Palmer has held various positions with increasing levels of responsibility, including engineering management and development, supply chain operations, and customer program management. Palmer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Bucknell University and is the recipient of several customer, business, and patent awards.

Jim, a 14 year Nike veteran, leads the team responsible creating and implementing the Considered Index; the tool used by product creation teams to evaluate and reduce the environmental impact of Nike products. In past roles at Nike, Jim created and managed the corporate greenhouse gas strategy, managed the manufacturing and product recycling programs, developed corporate environmental indicators, created sustainability strategies for packaging and retail, and conducted Nike’s first product environment footprint assessment. Prior to Nike, Jim used his engineering degrees to design recycling facilities and to manage government recycling programs.

Andrew Hartman

Andrew has worked throughout Europe, Asia and the USA on projects ranging from mobile phones, navigation systems, mobile computing, flat television and Medical Systems.
In his current role, Andrew is responsible for the delivery of world-class design solutions to clients external to Philips. This involves the direction of multi-disciplinary design/research teams that identify customer needs and desires, translating them into tangible design qualities which lead to meaningful, branded product experiences. Andrew's purpose built teams are often commissioned to inspire vision and create positive change within an organization through design.
Andrew’s main focus is on finding the right way to leverage design’s added value in complex organizations and thereby help a company exude/radiate its most attractive benefits.
Andrew regularly speaks on the value of design and is active in promoting the global design community. In 2006/7 he served as a juror for the Microsoft Next Gen PC Design competition and in 2008 was a juror for the IDSA / IDEA Design Awards. In 2009, Andrew chaired the IDSA / IDEA jury committee.
Andrew holds a B.E.D. in Product Design from NC State University, and postgraduate certification from Domus Academy in Milan, Italy.

As Senior Industrial Designer and Environmental Design Strategist for HP’s Imaging & Printing Group, Maria Tate works collaboratively with cross functional environmental stewards across the organization to provide strategic direction in the development of sustainable product solutions. Maria is also the lead designer for the Deskjet Printer portfolio, which offers consumers environmental features such as the use of recycled resins, industry leading low energy consumption, and more control over the environmental impact of their product. Maria has been with HP for over 15 years, has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a graduate of UCSD’s Leadership and Management Program.

Andy Clifton is the Design for Environment Capability Owner for Rolls-Royce and works at the Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace facility in Bristol, UK. He joined Rolls-Royce in 2005 having completed a PhD in the development of statistical models to predict fatigue behaviour in welded joints. His primary role at Rolls-Royce is to develop the company’s design evaluation capabilities to enable the inclusion of sustainability considerations into standard design practices. He is also the current Chair of the UK ADS (Aerospace, Defence and Security) Design for Environment Industrial Working Group. The current objective of this group is to develop industry standards for reporting and evaluating the environmental sustainability of products and systems used in the aerospace, defence and security sector.

Chuck is the Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability for Eastman Kodak Company, where he is also a divisional Vice President. His organization is responsible for compliance support to both operations and products worldwide, as well as for the coordination of sustainability initiatives throughout the company. He has held a variety of positions during his 18-year career at Kodak, including roles in operations support, product stewardship and support to business units. He is also a certified 6-Sigma Black Belt. Chuck’s training is in chemistry, with a B.S. from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He is a member of the board of trustees for the Central and Western New York chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

Conchita Jiménez-González

Concepción Jiménez-González is Director and Team Leader of Operational Sustainability at the Sustainability and Environment department of GlaxoSmithKline, where she is responsible for the development and deployment of global strategy and programs to integrate Sustainability into the GSK operations and product development.
She currently is a co-chair of the Pharmaceutical Roundtable of the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute. Conchita was also member of the US EPA’s Board of Scientific Counselors, Technology for Sustainability Sub-Committee. In addition, she serves in the National Board of Directors of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers as National Vice-President.
She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University; Raleigh NC; an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from ITESM; Monterrey, México and a B.S. in Chemical and Industrial Engineering at the Chihuahua Institute of Technology, México. Following the Spanish tradition, she is also known as Conchita.

Mike is Head of Sustainable Business at the UK retailer Marks & Spencer.
He was part of the small team that developed the company's groundbreaking Plan A, a 100 point, 5 year plan to address a wide range of environmental and social issues. He helps provide the vision and the energy to affect change and ensure a leading but efficient approach to sustainability across the company.
He deals with issues as diverse as sustainable fish sourcing, chemicals in products, labour standards in factories, animal welfare, food miles, privacy and data protection, genetic modification, fair trade, wood sourcing, community investment, cotton sourcing and climate change. His working life is broadly divided into three parts. Listening to and prioritising stakeholder expectations of Marks & Spencer, integrating them into corporate strategy and working with shops, business units and suppliers to deliver more sustainable products and wider business activity.
Prior to joining Marks & Spencer in 2000, he worked as an environment manager in the engineering sector and as an environmental consultant. He is a chemistry graduate from Sheffield University.

Wade Bryant is currently the Design Manager of the Strategic Vision Team at GM’s Advanced Design Center in Warren, Michigan. His team is responsible for understanding new and evolving customer needs, projecting and building future marketplace scenarios and designing transportation solutions for seven to 20-years into the future. After managing the interior design development of the Chevrolet Volt Concept vehicle in 2007, Wade launched the GM “Eco Initiative,” a research-led design project that aimed to clarify the needs and desires of green-minded automotive consumers. The Eco Initiative was able to define the unique motivations for customers desiring environmentally-friendly vehicles, and also produced several “internal” vehicle concepts that targeted the broad range of attributes these buyers would be looking for in the future.

Terry is an Internet and environmental entrepreneur and a pioneer in customer experience strategy and design. In 2007, Terry founded Sustainable Minds®, with the mission to bring environmental sustainability to mainstream product design and manufacturing in an understandable, empowering and credible way. Through delivering education and software in combination, companies can innovate and grow through greener product design.
In 2005, she founded The Beam™, a Web 2.0 marketplace for consumers, manufacturers, and green building professionals to power the demand for clean and green products and services. In 2002, Terry served as a founding management team member of network security software company StillSecure. Co-leading the product teams, they brought three best-in-class products to market in 18 months. Her first company TSDesign™, an Internet strategy and product design firm, was acquired in 1999 by Razorfish, a global digital services provider.
Terry has been a well-known speaker to business, technology and design audiences on designing effective digital business systems and the brand experience. She now speaks on innovation, sustainability and the future of engineering software; and the business opportunity for designing greener products.

Lee Fain leads design initiatives for 3M’s Electro Communications Business with the strategic intent of building deeper relationships with design and 3M’s technical community. Lee recently developed a framework for using Design as a Customer Engagement Strategy. This framework helps business teams develop meaningful solutions for creative professionals in the consumer electronic industry; linking technology and materials to compelling product design innovation.
Prior to this role, Lee was a Strategic Designer at 3M’s Consumer and Office Business Design Lab where he developed product design strategies for brands including Post-It® and Scotch®. These strategies included sustainable product and packaging design, product positioning, brand extension, alignment of global design resources, and strategic engagement with external design resources.
Lee held various positions within the field of design over the past 10 years with organizations including General Electric and the United States Air Force. Lee Fain holds a MFA in Industrial Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design, in addition to a BA in Communication from Campbell University in North Carolina. He lives in St.Paul with his family enjoying Minnesota's tropical climate.

Asheen Phansey

Asheen Phansey joined SolidWorks in 2010 as product manager for SolidWorks Sustainability and all-around sustainability advocate for the company. His expertise in nature-inspired design, product lifecycle stewardship, closed-loop business models, and green marketing has been built through a career in technology, business and academia.
Asheen travels widely speaking on sustainable innovation around the world and teaches MBA courses in Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Green Marketing as an Adjunct Professor at Babson College. Prior to SolidWorks, Asheen founded the consultancy Quaking Aspen to help companies develop sustainable innovation toolkits, building on his years of innovation experience in the biotech, software, and aerospace industries.
Asheen holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from Babson College, and has received a certificate in bio-inspired design from the Biomimicry Institute.

Peter Girard is a Sr. Project Manager for PE Americas. As a project leader he is responsible for full scope consulting services from proposal development through final implementation of sustainable product and supply chain management solutions. He also supports business development by exploring new applications for life cycle assessment consulting services and GaBi and Sofi software platforms. Prior to joining PE, Peter was a project manager for The Timberland Company in their Environmental Stewardship group. He managed the award winning ‘Green Index’ program which uses LCA based metrics to steer product design, development and labeling. In addition to his role providing LCA expertise to product and materials development on a case by case basis, he has experience combining LCA metrics with product lifecycle management (PLM) IT systems. Working to make environmental analysis integral to the product creation cycle is the general theme of his current projects.
Peter has worked with numerous industry stakeholders to ensure adoption and relevance of environmental programs. He has worked directly with suppliers in China, India and Brazil to roll out the basic reporting infrastructure to support environmental product design as well as working with footwear and leather industry associations to define best practices globally. Additionally he has experience collaborating with international NGOs to maintain the consumer relevance of product environmental goals and to mitigate brand damaging environmental risks in the supply chain. Peter holds a Master of Science in Resource Administration and Managementin addition to anundergraduate degree in Chemistry with a Concentration in Environmental Science.

Shawn Blenis is a Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of South Alabama with more than 27 years experience in the chemical processing industry. Over the course of his career, Shawn has held numerous positions of responsibility in Manufacturing, Resource Management, EH&S, and Process Development. These positions include Operations Manager of several production facilities, Resource Manager for two global business lines, and Manager of Additives EH&S at the McIntosh, Alabama manufacturing site.
Currently, Shawn serves as the Manager of Environmental Services in the Intertek Expert Services’ NAFTA organization. In this role, Shawn helps customers improve there product sustainability through the use of such tools as Life Cycle Assessments, Carbon Footprinting, Eco-Labeling, qualification of Comparable and Alterative fuel streams. Additionally, Shawn is considered an expert in the area of sustainability, giving presentations and conducting workshops annually at numerous tradeshows within North America.

She especially enjoys helping EarthShift staff engage in client projects, digging in to find pragmatic solutions while keeping the big picture in view. Prior to leading EarthShift, Melissa was an organizational development consultant working with well known businesses such as Ben & Jerry’s and Honda, providing her with a unique perspective on how businesses grow and evolve, and how best to assist them in the pursuit of sustainability.
